ABOUT

I am a Licensed and Marriage family therapist (LMFT), mom to twins, and native to Northern Virginia. I graduated with a Masters in Science from the Virginia Tech Marriage and Family Therapy Program in 2014 and have extensive experience working in community, inpatient, and private practice settings. I incorporate a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities tailored to the individual goals of my clients.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic style is active, collaborative and down-to-earth with warmth and humor. As your life and experiences are unique, I take the time to truly hear and understand you before offering clinical guidance so we can find what works best for you. Together, we will draw on your strengths and resilience, and identify additional tools and skills you need to feel better.

I often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) therapy skills which involves thought tracking and working specifically with problematic patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting . Additionally, I may work directly with underlying emotions or trauma in order to help you safely process and address them. Sometimes we will talk about psychoeducation and interpersonal neurobiology to help you better understand how we get wired for certain behaviors or thoughts- especially if you are in the habit of being self critical! Ultimately, I want to use the methods that I am trained in to find what resonates and works best in your life. For example, science and Oprah may say that mindfulness and meditation are magic but if using those techniques doesn’t work for you I will work with you to find out what does…

And because therapy is typically only 50 minutes out of your week  typically at the end of each session we’ll set your intentions to work on specific skills until we meet again, (e.g., practice thought stopping once a day, applying coping skills, etc.) so you can get the most out of you time in therapy.

Change is about noticing what’s no longer working and stepping out of the familiar, imprisoning patterns.
